Easy Lift Transportation Children\'s Accessible Transportation (C.A.T.)
This project funds transportation for the less advantaged children of Santa Barbara to access the numerous youth-serving programs available to foster a vibrant, healthy future. In 2008, Easy Lift found a pronounced tile missing from the mosaic of the charitable community; transportation was lacking for underpriviledged children to reach life betterment programs due to many charities' budget decreases and inability to secure their own vehicles. Through our collaboration with over 15 local agencies, children ages 0-18 are transported at no cost for their families to school, after-school programs, and medical and mental health service locations. Now in its third year, C.A.T. has provided over 8,000 rides for children to such destinations as the dentist, counseling sessions, swim lessons, UCSB Wheelchair Camp, high school continuing education, and the long-running Safety Town program. Easy Lift has one full-time wheelchair-accessible van and one full-time bi-lingual driver available entirely for C.A.T., and uses one of our other 20 vans in our fleet to supplement the program as needed. Because Easy Lift is the sole specialized transit provider for Santa Barbara who provides 60,000 rides collectively to our community each year, we are the best equipped local charity to transport our community's children to these vital services given our tenacious adherence to safety standards for our passengers. It is Easy Lift's objective in this project year to provide 3,500 rides and collaborate with up to 20 local agencies to address needs that may otherwise remain unmet in the absence of our unique organization which serves as the necessary, and sometimes forgotten, link for our recipients to access their community.
