2010 Cox Cares College Scholarship Program

We are excited to announce the 2010 Cox Cares College Scholarships! Applicants are asked to submit a short essay nomination addressing the prompt below regarding volunteering. Submissions will be judged by a panel of school and community leaders. One winner from each high school in the Cox serviceable areas will be chosen and awarded a $500 scholarship.

Eligibility requirements are below. Application is an online process from our web site at www.cox-cares.org. The deadline to apply is March 31, 2010.

The scholarship recipients will be judged based on the following criteria:

  1. Applicant must live within the Cox Communications Orange County, San Pedro, Palos Verdes Peninsula, or Santa Barbara service area.
  2. Applicant must be a graduating senior who plans to attend a two-year or four-year college or university or technical school.
  3. Applicant must maintain a 2.5 G.P.A.
  4. One letter of recommendation. Preferably from a representative of the non-profit organization or a mentor or teacher. The letter cannot be from a relative of the applicant.
  5. Copy of college or university acceptance letter.
  6. Copy of high school transcript (does not need to be official).
  7. Completed and signed release form. If the applicant is under 18 years old, his/her parent or guardian must complete the “Release for Unpaid Minor” form. If the applicant is 18 years or older, he/she must complete the "Release for Unpaid Individual" form.

Application Checklist

  • Letter of recommendation
  • Copy of College or University Acceptance Letter (if available)
  • Copy of High School transcripts
  • Completed Talent Release and Authorization Form (submit with application or fax to 949-546-3847)
Application includes two essays:
  • Why do you volunteer and what purpose do you believe it serves in the community? (100 words)
  • Describe one specific volunteer service activity that demonstrates excellence and highlights your volunteerism. (300 words)
Applications must be submitted by March 31, 2010 11:59pm.
Incomplete applications will be disqualified.
