Why Poland?

Since the start of the war, Poland has welcomed more than 1.5 million Ukrainian refugees, the majority of whom are women and children. This visit offers a unique opportunity to understand the humanitarian toll of the war and how CARE, in partnership with local organizations, has scaled up solutions to create a meaningful impact for refugee families.

CARE trip host

William “Bill” S. Mosakowski is the Founder, President, and CEO of Public Consulting Group, and a passionate advocate for communities in need. From 2019 to 2023, he served on CARE’s Board of Directors, where he championed relief efforts in Poland and supported educational programs for Ukrainian students affected by the war. Inspired by his family’s history of sending CARE Packages to Eastern Europe after WWII, Bill’s work reflects a lifelong commitment to caring for the most vulnerable.

Program visit highlights

Education initiatives for Ukrainian students and teachers

Discover how CARE Poland, in partnership with the Unbreakable Ukraine Foundation, is addressing barriers and providing targeted support to facilitate the employment of Ukrainian teachers in Polish schools. Learn more about programs designed to help teachers gain authorization to teach in Poland and how Ukrainian students engage in activities to ease their transition into a new educational environment. Hear directly from teachers and students about their experiences and learn from local authorities about strategies to integrate refugee educators into the workforce effectively.

Training for Ukrainian midwives and nurses

Learn about CARE Poland’s initiative to train and upskill 150 Ukrainian midwives and nurses, preparing them for long-term employment within the Polish healthcare system. Launched in July 2024 and generously funded by Stephen and Nancy Skinner, this project highlights CARE’s broader commitment to improving refugee health services in Poland.

Economic growth

Explore Przemyśl, a key entry point for millions of Ukrainian refugees since February 2022. In partnership with CARE and the Ukrainian House, tour short- and mid-term shelters offering safe spaces for the most vulnerable. Learn about ongoing support efforts, including cultural integration events and assistance at the railway station for newly arrived refugees.

We'll stroll through the beautifully preserved medieval Old Town, marvel at the Wawel Castle and the St. Mary’s Basilica, and visit Wieliczka Salt Mine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

On a one-day tour of the former concentration camp, guides will share profound stories and accounts that illuminate the past, serving as stark reminders of atrocities that must not be forgotten.
